After completing his university studies in political science, Schulz initially worked as a journalist before joining Initiative Media in 1988. In 1992, he took a job in Bremen with Kraft Foods as their manager of media and advertising before going to Sat.1 in 1996 as director of sales and services. In 2000, after the merger of the Sat. 1 and ProSieben marketing companies, he became Managing Director of SevenOne Media, which is now the marketing subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1. From 2001 through February 2006, Schulz was CEO of OMD Germany, the fastest-growing media agency in the country. He then took over as CEO of the Germany-based BBDO Group where from early 2008 he has acted as a consultant to the BBDO Group. Since September 2008, he has been the Chief Sales Officer of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG.
