SBS Takes Gold And Silver At PROMAX/BDA Europe Awards

Luxembourg, May 11 -- SBS Broadcasting received one Gold and one Silver Muse Award from Promax/BDA EMEA during the organization's 10th annual European Conference held recently in Vienna, Austria. The awards was given to SBS in recognition of its "Best On Air Campaign" entitled The Block, in support of its station in Belgium, VT4, which took Gold, and a Silver Muse was presented to Sweden's Kanal 5 for Best Television Image Promo for its Picadilly Products promotional spot.

The Best On-Air campaign was based on the question "can a couple survive 10 weeks of renovation?" The first of two spots in the campaign shows a nagging wife haranguing her husband as he throws household items out the window. Unable to tolerate his nagging wife any longer, he tosses her out the window at the end of the spot. The follow-up spot shows tools of renovation ñ from a small paintbrushes to a full size toilet ñ flying across the screen in various directions. The campaign was created by Steve Brouwers, creative director for SBS in Belgium.

The Best Television Image promo, entitled Picadilly Products, was devised to convey the overall feeling of Sweden's Kanal 5 autumn programming. Combining local program hosts with the actors from acquired international series and the Kanal 5 logo in a playful environment that communicated the channel's tag line "most enjoyable TV." Daniel Wallmark, head of promotion for Kanal 5 Sweden, conceived and produced the promo.

Patrick Tillieux, COO and acting CEO of SBS Broadcasting Europe, said: "SBS is proud to be a house of talent in television making. These prestigious awards rightfully honour the creative power and inventive sense of two of our best people."

The annual award competition, the 2006 Promax/BDA Europe Awards, attracted some 2400 entries for award consideration, a record-setting number of submissions.
