Covering a broad range of genre, Kanal 5 features U.S.-produced series like "CSI", "Criminal Minds" and "Numb3rs" as well as blockbuster movies such as "Alexander", "The Last Samurai", "Ocean's Twelve" and "Harry Potter". Major international content suppliers include Warner Bros. studios, DreamWorks, NBC/Universal and Disney. The programming schedule is complemented by Danish productions. Kanal 5 also features live coverage of some of the best football matches from top European leagues like the Spanish La Liga, the Scandinavian Royal League and the English Premier League plus the Danish touring car championship, a popular motorsport event.

The channel targets viewers between the ages of 15-50. In 2005, its market share was 3.2% within its commercial target group in Denmark (Source: Gallup Info TV). Starting as a commercial TV station under the name TV Danmark1 in 2001, the channel was relaunched as Kanal 5 in April 2004.
